SAM IO

Intraosseous Access System

Mechanically simple, Operationally essential.

Reliable vascular access in critical moments

The SAM IO is a fully manual intraosseous access system that enables life-saving intravenous access when veins are untraceable or collapsing. By pressing the trigger is pressed repeatedly the needle is inserted into the bone in a controlled manner, without batteries or external power sources. The compact and rugged design has been tested to military standards and remains reliable in the most challenging conditions.

With three different needle lengths (15 mm, 25 mm and 45 mm) the system can be used with a variety of patient groups, from pediatric to adult trauma. The ergonomic design gives the user clear confirmation during the procedure, so that each step is safe and controlled occurs. Thanks to the standard Luer-lock connection allows flushing and starting treatment immediately after placement.

Combining simplicity, reliability and flexibility in one compact kit, the SAM IO is an indispensable tool for emergency responders, military medical personnel and ambulance services.

Flexible solution for both pediatric and adult patients

The SAM IO can be used safely and effectively in both adults and children. Depending on the patient group and amount of soft tissue, multiple insertion sites and needle lengths are available.

This makes the system flexible in a variety of situations.

Recommended inserts

  • Adults: proximal humerus, proximal tibia, distal tibia

  • Pediatric: proximal humerus, proximal tibia, distal tibia, distal femur

Needle lengths

  • 15 mm – in patients with little or no overlying soft tissues

  • 25 mm – in patients with moderate soft tissue layer

  • 45 mm – in patients with a thicker soft tissue layer

Thanks to this variation, the SAM IO provides immediate and reliable access, regardless of age, anatomy or circumstances.

Also available as a training model

In addition to the clinical version, the SAM IO is also available as a training kit. This simulation kit includes a manual driver, three training needles (15 mm, 25 mm and 45 mm), stabilizer and adaptor. The kit comes in a compact carrying case and can be used with specially developed practice models (“sawbones”) to train realistic intraosseous placements.

The training version is intended for educational purposes only and not for patient use. It offers social workers the opportunity to become familiar with the technique, experience the proper feel of the manual driver and practice repeatedly in a safe environment.

This allows teams to strengthen their skills and more confidently deploy the real SAM IO in critical situations.
